![]() ![]() I've had them about a week and they are already doing better than the ram ever seemed to. The female has a bright red-orange strip along the top of her dorsal fin as well - she's quite striking for being the "plain" one. The male has BRIGHT red with black "flame" accents on his dorsal, caudal and analfins, and his pectoral fins are bright orange. ![]() They were sold to me as "Double Red" but I'm pretty sure they are triple red. So, as luck would have it, I found the most adorable pair of Cockatoos (Apistogramma cacatuoides). They offered me store credit, but I decided to let it go and look elsewhere, as that was the second fish I'd lost from that store in a month. I couldn't figure out anything I might have done, though I'd heard rams can be 'fragile.' About a week later I went back to the store where I got him and it turns out the whole group was iffy and that only a handful had survived both in the store and from people who bought them. His behavior was a bit off for a cichlid I thought, and then one night he was stuck to the filter. is it ok to add a female at any time after the male has been in there? I'm happy, and my tank is now fully stocked, though if I ever find a definite female I may change my tune on a pair. So far he doesn't seem to interested in food (he doesn't come to the surface or anywhere near it during feeding) but he's picked up little things from the sand here and there. Haha.Īnyway I think this may just be the perfect fish that I was looking for! Very pretty and heaps of personality. It was great - the silver dollar started following him around, almost like a dog or cat sniffing the bum of another. Cracked me up when my rather large silver dollar swam up to him - all of my other fish scatter when he's nearby, the Ram just sat there face to face, completely unfazed. I thought about a pair but the guy wasn't sure he could sex them and I didn't want to end up with 2 males!Īnyway, so far, he's GREAT! Very very pretty colors, he seems to have settled in pretty quickly (within an hour he'd claimed a cave and started to really show his colors) and doesn't seem to care much about the other fish. The Rams were only $7 and they'd sell me as few or as many as I wanted. My lfs in Manhattan was selling Apistos for like $70/pair and didn't want to split up pairs. ![]() I ended up getting a single Bolivian Ram which I believe is a male, though he's a bit small to tell for sure just yet. Wanted to say thanks again for the advice. ![]()
